Taiwanese microchip manufacturer Etron Technology opens its first factory in Oradea, Romania

Asian electronic components manufacturer Etron Technology expands its global presence and opens its first production facility in Oradea, Romania. This is the Taiwanese EMS manufacturer’s first factory in Europe.

Etron Technology has leased 3,600 sqm of production space in CTPark Oradea Cargo Terminal, the first industrial park with an air cargo terminal in Romania.

The Asian manufacturer, which has production facilities in China, Vietnam, Mexico and Singapore, decided to set up a new unit in Romania to take advantage of business opportunities with customers in the EU.

Etron, as an EMS supplier for PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly), will operate the Romanian plant mainly for SMT & MI, the production line, and test and assembly.

The company’s customers mainly focus on industrial control, medicine, automotive, communications, new energy, and consumer products.

With its complex operations, the new production hub is set to thrive, benefiting from temperature and humidity control with an integrated BMS system that ensures all quality standards are met, fostering an optimistic outlook for Etron Technology in Europe.

In addition, the new factory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including static discharge, compressed air, N2 and other customised equipment. This provides safety and comfort to human operators and ensures the highest technical standards, reassuring our customers about the quality of our products.

Growing demand for nearshoring

This strategic decision reflects the increasing demand CTP is seeing from companies wishing to undertake nearshoring activities for production destined for European markets.

Romania’s partial integration into the Schengen Area, together with its expanding air and sea transport networks, reinforces its status as a manufacturing hub. This hub is supported by competitive advantages such as skilled labour, digital innovation, and favourable tax rates, which stimulate economic growth and investment.

Andrei Brinzea, Business Development Director at CTP Romania, says: “The CEE region’s reputation as a solid manufacturing base dates back to the Habsburg Empire, and now Romania, the second largest market in the CEE, is emerging as a major destination for manufacturing.

With many skilled workers, including one of the highest shares of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students in Europe (29.3%) and continued investment in infrastructure such as new motorways, Romania offers excellent business opportunities.”
